Present: Deb Leary, Kathy O’Neill, Donna Sarnacki

Minutes of the April meeting were approved.

The U of R has expressed interest in a partnership with 19th Ward regarding student housing issues, using student ambassadors with regard to communications and issues.  U of R also has rules for off-campus housing.

Weldon St. has a problem with a number of houses now rented to students. Lauren Sample and Kathleen Connolly are the people to contact.  They have been working on this issue with other neighbors for some period of time.  They had shared information with the previous Housing Committee.

There have been complaints about 932-934 Thurston with many men hanging out. Complaint has been referred to the Neighborhood Service Center.  Jackie will keep a list of such referrals.

Next meeting: Wednesday, June 18th at 11:00 am at the 19th WCA office.

Action items:

  • Deb will invite NSC representatives to meet with the committee.

  • Kathy will contact the Weldon St. neighbors.

Suggestions for possible committee actions:

  • Determine landlords with multiple properties that generate the most complaints from neighbors.

  • Article for Update detailing problems to look for:  loud, late night parties, paved lawns, zoning and occupancy violations.

  • Write letters to landlords and U of R.

  • Pilot project for limited area, possibly north of Brooks near Genesee.

  • Positively acknowledge neighbors who have improved properties.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy O’Neill
