From a neighbor on Marlborough Rd...

Subject: Public Safety Meeting update/information
I attended the 19th Ward Public Safety “committee” meeting this past Wednesday [July 31] and wanted to share just a few highlights. The meeting was, essentially, a reporting from RPD of a few notable/recent crimes. Per RPD, the recent shootings on Thurston/Milton APPEAR to be related to an ongoing domestic dispute. The other recent shooting near Thurston/Chili was apparently self inflicted.
A neighbor from Roxborough brought up the issue of recent break-ins or break in attempts on Inglewood/Marlborough (cut screens, garage thefts, etc). The crime prevention officers seemed to NOT be aware of these trends and asked whether 911 had been called for these incidents. This led to a discussion about the need to
CALL 911 WITH ALL CRIME and CRIME RELATED ACTIVITY.
911 will not always send an officer out and they MIGHT refer you to 311 depending on the circumstance, BUT the only way this stuff gets tracked is through 911 calls.
In addition to contacting 911, you should also consider notifying our Crime Prevention Officers of these incidents – you can contact them via email or phone here:
Crime Preventions Officers (CPO's) provide RPD services to the SW neighborhoods under Lieutenant Bob Hill.
Their contact information is:
We also briefly discussed “nuisance issues” (i.e. noise, dogs, motorcycles, etc.). Again, the response was CALL 911 – and if there is no response within 30 minutes CALL 911 AGAIN – If still no response you can ask for a supervisor to contact you. 911 calls for things like noise, dogs, etc. are lower priority so we might need to be really assertive in getting a response.
Other helpful information you might want to know:
There is a 19th Ward Crime Alert Facebook page- you can access it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/19thwardcrimealert/
Location 19/SW is a web-based social media page that also has a lot of information and can accessed here http://www.location19.org
It is pretty clear to me that RPD has their hands full with calls and it is also clear that they are a COMPLAINT/CALL DRIVEN organization at this point in time so it’s essential that we use 911 to get the attention we need in terms of crime issues here.
