Notes
Comments from the two guests in the audience-(audience attendance increased as the meeting continued to five total guests)
Comment: Obviously, the attendance is low and people don’t come because that already have the information-(and it’s the same information) and really people only attend when there has been heightened activity in the southwest. Officer: Also, those that have been involved so they know where to go get their questions answered, so they don’t come to this regularly scheduled meeting.
837 Genesee Street- Street Robbery-Victim was carrying groceries from Family Dollar and was jumped knocked down and stole his grocery.
331 Wellington Avenue –Car robbery- Victim was intoxicated, left Thurston Bar and Grill, intoxicated, was traveling north bound on Thurston Rd, picked up a female and was later robbed on Arnett Blvd. Took his vehicle, but car was retrieved by owner. Owner found the car and said he was so intoxicated he could not remember what happened.
794 Woodbine Avenue-Street Robbery – Suspects (2) approached victim while at the bus stop one had a hand gun in a towel and demand victim’s phone and wallet. Victim gave up wallet with debit cards and ID to gunman. Both suspects ran away.
619 Sawyer Street- Attempted Robbery and Assault shooting- Victim was walking on Sawyer Street and was told by one of the two males and said “Give me your “sh--**”! Victim replied “ The devil is a liar!” and then, the victim was shot in shoulder. Don’t know why he said that, the suspects then fled East bound toward Woodbine. Victim called 911 and met officers, there were non-life threatening injuries to shoulder. The shot spotter was activated at 587 Sawyer Stree east of where this took place.
518 Flint Street- Car Jacking-Robbery – Victim pulled car to the curb, thought he heard a funny noise. When he exited the car, the two suspects approached him with a hand gun, and stated “ I’m taking this car!”, the suspects then took keys and drove away. Officer Perry observed the vehicle at 151 Van Aucker Street-suspects ran from the car and one was apprehended. Suspects were 20 and the 18 year old is being sought. The gun for this robbery is still outstanding.
197 Genesee Street – Homicide- Suspects shot one guy in the torso and one in the thigh. Victims got in their car and drove down the street to Family dollar and this is where the police got involved. Two men were arrested for this crime. It only took two days to arrest them.
416 Flint St. – Food delivery Robbery-Female delivery driver was to make a food delivery of pizza and wings at this address but no one was home. Someone showed up and driver was robbed of the food and cash. Nine houses down the street at 451 Flint Street, the mother of this house was just arriving as police asked her could they come in and look around. She agreed and the pizza, wings and cash were retrieved and the cell phone that made the call to the pizza parlor. Two young men were arrested that lived at this address (451 Flint Street) for this crime. Apparently, they called for the pizza and wings to be delivered at 416 Flint and then decided to rob the driver. The result, crime does not pay even when 9 houses away.
Issues:
Resident: - Penhurst has 12 cars with no plates. This fact was reported this to the Neighborhood Service Center. Permits are needed to house these cars in the yard. One warning letter is sent to the owner and if no response then the tickets are given. It usually takes two weeks for the process to be complete. Plates would need to be on the cars, registered have the plates on it. Some are parked on the lawn. You can not have an unregistered car on your property.
Police Officer - This is not allowed- front yard parking is not allowed. E-mail the specifics and we will handle.
Resident: - Some of the residents on my street appear to be doing car service in their yards for other people (non household members) on an ongoing basis. Is this proper?
Police: - You are not allowed to run a car service business out of your residence.
Resident: At the corner of Milton and Thurston Road, there needs to be a garbage can on that corner. The city has been asked to do this but has not responded. It looks like a war zone with a lot of papers and trash everywhere.
Officer: - We will let Dave and the Neighborhood Service Center know about this requiest.
