Sow It Forward is the grants and partnership program of Kitchen Gardeners International. The grant is for nonprofit causes or organizations (schools, 501c3s, food banks, community gardens, colleges, libraries, prisons, senior programs, etc.) interested in starting or expanding food garden projects that are of general benefit to their community. Past grantees include school gardens, community gardens, food bank gardens, library gardens, senior gardens, prison gardens and homeless shelter gardens among others.
For our next round of giving, we'll be offering 100 full grants and roughly 50 partial grants. The full grant has a worth of $500 and consists of:
* a $300 cash grant
* a $100 giftcard to Gardeners Supply Co.a href="http://www.gardeners.com/">http://www.gardeners.com/>
* a $55 vegetable seed (non-GMO, non-hybrid) package from the Ark Institutea href="http://www.arkinstitute.com/">http://www.arkinstitute.com/>
* a $25 one-year subscription to KGI's online garden planner courtesy of GrowVeg.coma href="http://www.growveg.com/">http://www.growveg.com/>
* a $20 value one-year subscription to Mother Earth Newsa href="http://www.motherearthnews.com/">http://www.motherearthnews.com/> magazine
The partial grant has a value of $325 and consists of a $300 cash grant and $25 one-year subscription to our online garden planner. There are no geographic limitations on what types of food garden projects will be considered. Last year's granteesa href="http://kgi.org/garden-grants-2013">http://kgi.org/garden-grants-2013> included projects from Portland, Oregon to Pakistan and many places in between. Because of trade restrictions and international shipping fees, garden projects from outside the US will only be eligible for partial grants.

It’s time for Fiskars Project Orange Thumb to begin another year of neighborhood beautification, and this is your chance to bring our community gardening initiative to your area. If you’re part of a community garden group or civic organization in the U.S. or Canada, simply apply to our grant program by December 31, 2013. Your organization could receive $5,000 in cash and garden tools to help you reach your goals of community change. Your group could even be the recipient of a complete garden makeover, in which the Project Orange Thumb team comes to your neighborhood and turns unused space into a beautiful community garden in just one day! Grant recipients will be announced March 31, 2014.
