The first thing I saw was the bright yellow "Southern Cooking Here" sign hanging over the doorway - and when I walked through the door, it was all about the wonderful, mouth-watering smell of fresh baked bread and cakes!  MJ Daily Bread is a  warm, cozy little spot at 540 West Main, and is part of a larger initiative that includes a tea room (that can be used for gatherings, meetings or small celebrations), a boutique filled with hand crafted art, and a courtyard tucked in back for outdoor eating in warmer weather.  MJ is open Tuesday through Saturday, open as early as 7:00 am (8:00 am on Saturday), and serving dinner on Friday nights.  With $5.00 lunch specials, she can compete with the chain restaurants, with eat-in or take-out options.

I've driven past this location many times, without realizing what was behind the 1880's storefront.  Now that I've found it, its being added to my list of neighborhood businesses to support!  And, now that Broadway Lunch appears to have closed at least temporarily, its an alternative for neighborhood folks who want a good breakfast in a welcoming, convenient location.

MJ has a website:  http://mjdailybread.com/ and in addition to the restaurant has catering services available.

Check it out!   As MJ says, it's "Good for the Soul"

I belong to a group of folks, the Cheap Lunch crew, who eat lunch someplace new every Friday with Adam Wilcox, former food editor of City. Neighbor Michael Warren Thomas sometimes joins us. Our experiences and casual reviews are posted on Adam's website, rochesterfoodnet.com, Although both Michael and I both missed the trip to MJ Daily Bread last March, here's the review: http://www.rochesterfoodnet.com/restaurants/cheap-lunch/277-cheap-l.... I recommend going toward the end of the week (Thursday-Saturday).
