This discussion group will be used to keep everyone informed of the Voters Block Project.

Voters Block Community includes the development of 92 units of housing consisting of new construction and  rehabilitation, including mixed use buildings in the Susan B. Anthony and near Southwest neighborhoods.  Included in the project will be a cafe in the mixed use building to be constructed at 431 W. Main Street overlooking the Voters Box Memorial .

The new apartment building and cafe is getting ready for tenants to move in. This month new residents will begin moving in and living at 431 W Main St.  All units have been rented in this three story building. With our great weather the landscaping of the grounds has begun

The cafe now has an official name " 1872 Cafe".  Soon a new business will be open on W Main St. The expected opening will be late Spring 2012.  There will be an opportunity for employment at the new Cafe. I will post when they are ready to accept applications.

The new community at 431 W Main St is now connected to the Troup Street Playground.  Prior to development of this site a concrete barrier wall separated the Playground from W Main St access.  A new wide public pedestrian walking path will soon connect W Main St to the Troup Street Playground.  The City of Rochester will be making the improvements to the path soon.

The renovation of 556 -560  W Main has been taking place since last fall. The building is wrapped in scaffolding and plastic during the renovations. The brick building has been given new life. It had to be completely gutted and foundation and walls stabilized due to the deteriorated condition. Now this building will have another 100 yrs of life added to it at least! Peak under the plastic and you will see new windows,  doors, commercial spaces ready to rent. The lights are on, heating systems in and final touches beineg worked on.  Soon  this building that stood vacant nearly 15 years will be open for tenants and new businesses.

The Frederick Douglass Apartments are six historic buildings located at 442- 466 1/2 West Main St. These historic buildings are undergoing rehabiliation of 28 apartments on the upper floors and ten first floor commercial spaces. Residents will have a community center, laundry facilities and a management office.
Applications for apartments and commercial space are now being accepted!
Residential apartments: Contact Gerlander Bost at 585.764.3535.
Commercial space: Contact Megan Houppert at 585.270.5026.

Last but not least with these exciting projects are the addition to new infill housing in and around W Main St. Jefferson Ave has several new townhomes built and residents already enjoying their new homes. Troup St also has had infill housing built. These homes now complete the streetsscapes of these neighborhoods.

Join our neighborhood in welcoming all our new residents. We are looking forward to many good years together as neighbors.
