Minutes of the January 7th, 2020 meeting of
The 19th Ward Community Association Schools Committee
Attendees: John Laing, John Boutet, Jay Ross, Sarah Yaworski, Charlotte and Douglas Giebel
December minutes
Approved
Spelling Bee Status (Charlotte and Douglas Giebel)
RACF has funded us at the $1500 level we requested. Jay presented some options for incentives. Agreement was reached on note pads (one each attendee) and others for each session attended. Sarah had researched the need for permission slips for the students. The schools have collected generic permission slips for field trips, etc. and we should be covered using the same form. Douglas was to email the school coordinators and principals to assure that this is the case for the Spelling Bee and that all students would have one on file. No response yet from the superintendent’s office on his availability to talk at the Spelling Bee. Fraternity rep will be invited to the next meeting.
Rochester coalition for Public Education
The proposal to the state is to hire two experts, one in education and curriculum and the other in finance to be funded by state money. They would report to the commissioner.
School Updates
Schools lost some teachers and para-professionals in the budget cuts
New/Old Business
Sarah agreed to review the MOU between the 19th ward association and the school district.
The next committee meeting will be Tuesday February 4th at 7 pm in the 19th Ward Community Association office.
