Attendees: John Laing, John Boutet, Douglas Giebel, Sarah Yaworski, Jay Ross, Dan Ross
February minutes
Approved
Spelling Bee Status ( Douglas Giebel)
The fraternity has developed the schedule for March 28 on campus
Practice at the library on Saturdays has a small attendance – transportation is an issue. School 16 is holding its internal spelling Bee on Thursday – Dan, Jay, John L and Douglas will conduct the event.
The bus situation is not resolved and work continues. Next year school 44 will not be open – we discussed a number of options to pursue for next year.
RCSD budget and plan
The coalition to improve schools, in supporting RCSD is encouraging us to contact our state representatives asking for: funding of $40M or more, 2 experts selected by State Ed (one education and one financial) to monitor the district for two years, they would be chosen by state Ed.
We discussed the superintendent’s plan to close schools 44 and 57 and convert them into preK centers. Dan volunteered to draft a note asking for the preK sites in the 19th Ward to be held harmless.
New Business
John B reported that SWAN has folded.
The volunteer process needs to be evaluated, which will come out of the CET process.
The next committee meeting will be Tuesday April 7th at 7 pm in the 19th Ward Community Association office.
