Spelling Bee Feedback

The Spelling Bee was successful, and the fraternity had students ready to go when their turn arrived. The students were well prepared and were comfortable on stage. The word lists should be revised to have harder words for the later rounds. Feedback from our partners will be solicited to incorporate in next year’s spelling bee.

School 16 Status and meeting with Commissioner LeBron

There had been a rumor in school 16 that the building would not be available for teachers until a week before the start of school. Mike Schmidt confirmed that they were committed to August 1^st availability.

We found that our priorities and those of Commissioner LeBron were in good agreement and that we felt she would represent us well.

School 44 Placement Status

People reported that parents living near school 44 were directed to school 17, which is contrary to our expectations. After the meeting we added the following. The school choice policy is spelled out in the path forward demographic report. Please review before our meeting on June 5.

School 29 Status

Joe reported that School 29, as part of its focus on inclusivity is going to redesign its playground to enable their school population to be able to play together. Some RIT faculty members are involved in the process. We suggested that Joe attend the next delegates’ council meeting (May 10) to talk about the concept and ask for input.

Some students will be going on tour at RIT

School 19 Status

School 19 will have some renovation over the summer to make the entrance more secure.

Old/New Business

The next committee meeting will be Tuesday June 5^th at 7 pm in the 19^th Ward Community Association office.
