Wrap-up of 9th annual Spelling Bee
The winners of the 9th annual spelling bee were:
Aniy’Jha Simpson and Michael Gonzolez from school 16;
Branden Cook and Le’Asia Wilson from school 19, and
Maya Adams and Hahtija Hassan from school 10.
A previous winner, Makenna Hutchinson claimed her scholarship.
Planning for 10th Annual Spelling Bee
Douglas talked about the schedule to get to March 28, the 10th annual spelling bee.
He and Charlotte have engaged with the fraternity and the school coordinators.
All have the word lists and the practice sessions at the Arnett library are scheduled.
The budget was prepared and the spend for this year is projected to be $4,150 which can be funded by a carryover of $2,662.97 from 2019 and a grant from the community Foundation of $1500.
It was decided to invite superintendent Terry Wade as the speaker. Douglas and Charlotte were to contact his office.
Volunteer process
School 16 served as headquarters for the 19th ward house tour. The Principal collected names of people who would be interested in volunteering. We decided to invite Ricky Frazier to help in recruiting volunteers
Rochester Coalition for Public Education
The group hosted an information sharing session of their proposal. John B talked of the transition to community schools, including busing for all which was well received.
School reports
School 16 positive feedback from the house tour.
School 29 - The superintendent will make his cost cutting proposal November 12. Joe is concerned with the enrollment numbers and has been recruiting potential students. They have instituted an 8:15 start for people who need preschool.
The next committee meeting will be Tuesday December 3rd at 7 pm in the 19th Ward Community Association office.
