On Friday October 23rd School 44 revived its Movie Night events and it was a great success!  I stopped over to see how things were going and to take a few pictures.  The front door was open and visitors were greeted as they entered and were directed to the gym where the movie would be shown.  It just about brought tears to your eyes to see the wonderful community atmosphere at this event and how well attended it was. Early arrivals were starting to find a good spot on the gym floor.   Many had brought pillows and blankets for comfort.

There were students, parents, grandparents, teachers, school staff and neighbors from the community who came to see the kids having a blast.  Parents and their kids kept wandering in, with parents often pushing a stroller with future students inside.  Over 80 people eventually came to the event.

The concession stand Shown below was busy throughout the evening and raised over $100 for the school. The entertainment for many of the adults was watching the kids enjoying themselves.

By 7:30pm , principal Donna Anderson and Beverly Usher were already planning the next events.

It's dumpster diving time!  No redeemable box-top or other item that could raise money for the school made it past Beverly's watchful eye.

With an event like this, the school year is off to a good start.  44 is back!

John - Thank you for this wonderful report. You must have announced this event - where should I look for the next one? Thanks. Gail

Hi Gail,

I had posted it in the main Events calendar but I had done so the afternoon of the event: Movie Night at School 44.  Unless you checked the calendar that afternoon you would have missed it.  I'm about to post the next PTO meeting at 44 which is Tuesday November 3rd at 6pm.  No cute kids to see but a lot of folks passionate about our school are there to talk with.  All community members are welcome.

John
