We will have a Location19/SW Education/19WCA Schools table at Square Fair to answer questions about what is going on and what people can do to make a difference in our community.

Location19.org - If you are reading this on Location19 you know we try to encourage all sorts of community oriented activities in SW Rochester to improve our quality of life.  One of our big efforts this past year has been to stimulate needed attention to schools in the 19th Ward which was targeted for several possible school closings.  Stop by with questions or suggestions about site and what we should be looking into for the benefit of the community.  Location19.org (aka LocationSW.org) is an independent website which works with all individuals and organizations in the SW Quadrant of Rochester who wish to participate.

SW Education Committee - This committee of the SouthWest Common Council (SWCC) was revived last summer to come to the aid of School 16 which had been closed on Post Avenue with little forewarning.  The SWCC represent all the neighborhood associations in SouthWest Rochester.  We used its Education Committee because the SWCC meets over the summer and was available for rapid response.  It soon became obvious that three of the four schools in the 19th Ward were at risk and that a "Facilities Modernization Program" in the RCSD was going to have a major impact on our schools.  We needed to learn what was going on quickly and how best to respond for the long term benefit of our Schools.  We organized numerous Education Committee meetings and attended many RCSD meetings at central office to lobby for our schools.  The effort is documented in the SW Education Forum and a good summary can be found in Update on Schools 10, 16 and 44 and on SW Education Committee and 1....  During the coming months the focus of the SW Education Committee will shift to schools in neighborhoods outside the 19th Ward.

19WCA Schools Committee - During the fall of 2012 the 19WCA became very active in supporting the effort being made to keep our schools in the 19th Ward.  This spring the 19WCA Schools Committee was reactivated to take over from the SW Education Committee the needed ongoing interaction with with schools in the 19th ward to ensure they not only stay but are successful.  To that end we will try to encourage as many volunteers as possible to get involved in our schools to give students all the help they need.

Stop by our Square Fair table and let's find out how we can best help the community.  Our table will probably be located under the central 19WCA tent.
