This year, once again, a local CROP Walk is being sponsored by southwest Rochester area churches. And this year there is a history component. The connection with local history is that the walk will follow the Riverway Trail, and will incorporate such historical sites as the canals, the Civil War encampment site, the Cunningham Car testing ground.

John Curran, member of the History and Archives Committee, is actively recruiting individuals to assist the day of the walk. Those willing will be trained on Saturday, April 23. They should convene at Boulder's between 9 and 9:30.
The history training will take place along the actual CROP Walk route itself. This will involve a three-mile distance and may take as long as ninety minutes with frequent rest stops. If you can help, or need more information, contact John at jecurran@rochester.rr.com, or just show up at the appointed time.

(CROP Walks take place nationwide, sponsored by Church World Service and are organized by local congregations to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world. Registration for the local walk begins at St. Monica's Church at 2 p.m. on May 1st, with the walk beginning at 2:30.)

The CROP Walk preparation meeting took place on April 23rd at Boulder.  Most of the attendees were members of the 19WCA History Committee.  Some of these members will help guide the walk.

John Curran had a map of the route the  May 1st  walk would follow:

Local history posters that will be positioned at various sites along the route were reviewed with the group by John Curran who assembled the information and created the posters.
All the assembled posters were photographed by John Boutet and can be found in the following album: 110423 History Committee - Crop Walk Prep

After all the posters were reviewed the group decided on how best to proceed in preparations for the CROP Walk.  Keith Jackson (black shirt) offered to work with Doris Meadows and John Curran (foreground) to put together a short video introducing what the CROP Walk history tour would be.  After the meeting they went with Keith to produce the video and scan all the images for the archives. The video can be viewed on the 19WCA history page at: http://www.19wca.org/home/history  or it can be viewed on YouTube .

Great job everyone!
