The D&C has endorsed a friend of mine for City School Board. I urge everyone who truly cares about our school system to vote for her!

I've known Nancy for a couple of years now, since I met her when I was a consumer representative to the Monroe County Cultural and Linguistic Competency Committee. Nancy will bring a fresh voice and the perspective of a parent who has been through it all. She was an “unwed mom” who dropped out of high school — but eventually got her GED and then a B.A. and M.A. You would never know her background upon meeting her.

She has truly overcome enormous odds, and that experience gives her a deep understanding of what many RCSD students face in their daily lives.

Moreover, Nancy lives smack dab in the middle of "The Crescent," in a small home passed down through the family. She and her family have made a commitment to remaining in what is known as the most challenged neighborhood in the city, even though they are fully able to move anywhere they want.

Her presence there gives the lie to people who have a screwed up vision of the city, especially those who propose (and not facetiously) that certain areas be walled off so those inside can kill each other off.

We need Nancy!
