I wanted to create a group to talk about things that are happening that affect us politically. I think we all need to be smart and active voters, and i hope that starting this group will help to facilitate that for the south west. This group is about sharing opinions and ideas. Its good to share feelings about the elected officials who represent us, but this really isn't the place to campaign for someone or flat out lambast the people you dislike.
The more active and aware we are in regards to the things that affect us politically, the stronger we will become as a voting block. The strength we develop as an active and informed voting group will necessitate our elected officials to become more receptive to addressing out interests and concerns.

Sadly, I'm in agreement with Jeremy's assessment. Let the creepy crawlers come out from under their rocks and show their true colors without fear of reprisal. At least we'll be dealing with the truth. I'm going to invest my time in getting to know people, trying to see other perspectives so that I can have a better understanding of why people are operating in such immense fear, working with others to determine who in government is truly working on our behalf (and what that means), and enjoying the connections of my family and friends. Working with the refugee and migrant population has been a gift in broadening my perspective and appreciating the country in which we live. It's always helpful to have "contrast." I know I DO NOT want THIS, so that compels me to go for THAT. Peace!
Mumz, there is an element of our society which literally bases its identity off of being better than an entire race of human beings. We have hillbillies in Appalachia living in dirt floor shacks, strewn with garbage, no internal plumbing, crappin in outhouses whose literal existence is based on being able to be in actual society walk up to any black doctor or lawyer call him a DIRTY N*****R and instantly feel better than him! Think about the power that creates in the mind of some methed out piece of trailer rubbish from texas or florida. White supremacy is an addiction in this country and the hatefulness we're seeing is very much based in love in my opinion...love of power.
Mark, i don't want hillary in charge. Point blank period. I think she will make things far worse for black people. If she gets in everyone will go back to acting like democracy and freedom is safe in america, and we're somehow post-racial again like we were under Obama. BULLSHIT!!!!! No i agree with Eleanor. Lets get our dirty laundry way out in the open for the whole world to see, and stop pretending as though the filthy racist element of our country isn't VERY alive and strong.
People have waited YEARS to practice their racism openly again. If Hillary got in THEY WOULD BE NO LESS RACIST, THEY WOULD JUST BE MORE PRIVATE about their racism! I think trump is good because now racism and white supremacy will affect many white and other non-black racial groups who would otherwise get a pass from the "private" white supremacy types. Jews and certain hispanics, asians, light skinned muslims, and a variety of other non-black races can get passes under the type of white supremacy hillary clinton practices. Its called "benign neglect" she ignores the black community completely and members of the afformentioned races can kind of have this "honorary white person" status if they shit on black folk. Under trump, all "Honorary white person" passes from any of those races are being OFFICIALLY REVOKED. We have REAL white supremacy coming back into vogue in america, and none of those races will be safe no matter how much they sh*t on they black community.
We don't have any control over that mess in washington dc, and i feel like we should stop pretending like we do. Its just a distraction to keep us focussed on bullshit. We have no control over it, so why should we pay any attention to it? We have a lot of control over what happens around us locally if we are mindful and we think strategically.
Eleanor,
Read your comment twice as it is full of meaningful content. One point to address right away is one I have heard several times. It may not be four more years. Opinions have been voiced that Trump will be impeached a ways into his presidency, as he has little concept of the role or how it works. And you are right, more hate is not the answer. Let time take its course, as we don't yet know what will develop. Meanwhile, enjoy the Christmas holidays!
I'm hearing strong support for learning more about how we can make an impact locally. In the past, I think it was easy to get fired up about something and then lose steam and allow things to fall back to the old ways. Hopefully, the shock of Trump being at the helm of our country with no turning back for at least 4 years will keep us ignited and moving forward. I have been hearing consistently that the positive thing about all this is that, what has always been present in the dark, has now been given permission to have a voice in the light without fear of repercussion. You can't fight an enemy you don't know; well, they are making themselves known. At the same time, I am exploring the position that those who are hateful are also filled with fear; I don't think more hate will deescalate or bring about healthy change. We need more conversation, compassion, openness to hearing another's point of view and, dare I say it, love. Being understanding and compassionate doesn't mean we don't stand up for ourselves or drive change for the better. It just means we don't get to punch someone LOL
I've wanted to be better informed as to the workings of our court systems. The local judges and DA's are voted in are they not? If there is corruption and/or racial bias taking place in the sentencing locally, i feel like the people doing it can probably be voted out of office. I'd be very interested in figuring out a better way of bringing more awareness to activities which local DA's and judges should be held accountable for come election season.
Except for a feeling of dread over the damage this moron could do, I have to agree with you about national politics, Jeremy. Where we can make a difference is in local politics - not necessarily within the local party machine, but with an educational effort focused on young people.
