Does anyone know of a community tool shed in the 19th ward where you can borrow tools and such? Someone at Neighborworks told my husband there was one run by S.W.A.N. but I called them and they said that wasn't true. Just didn't know if there was indeed one somewhere. We need a ladder to clean our gutters and figured if there was a tool shed we could borrow one from there. Thanks.

Good Lord! What a wonderful idea, the 'Breakfast Club.' It is certainly worth entertaining, and may work here.  I suggest people who are interested reply to Robert to sign up, and we can see if there is interest.

And it would be worth following up on hosting a community tool shed.

Let's all follow up on this.

I started a group called "19th Ward Tool Shed" If you are interested please join!

If the "Breakfast Club" has enough interest, I'd love to form a group for that as well.

Any input on either is welcome!!!

A number of years ago, we had a community garden up in back of the ARC house on Brooks Avenue.  The families involved each had plots for their gardens, and a shared tool shed.  It was a great opportunity for the neighbors living in the house, and for the neighbors gardening.  We have also attempted a similar Breakfast club idea on Melrose Street.  It was based on the idea that people would invest in helping each other and we would rotate the help around.  So by helping your neighbor with his task, they would then come around to your house when it was your turn.  It did not work out as we started too small.  The idea was to focus on one street and as everyone on that street improved their property over time, the whole street would benefit.  However on one street there were not enough people interested to tackle more than one or two projects. So broadening the activity and opening it up to a larger group would be helpful.

I have a ladder that you guys can borrow Cheryl. It is VERY heavy.

I love the tools shed idea. I go to estate sales sometimes and they practically give tools away. Where would such a thing be housed, who would be responsible to sign tools in or out? I would be willing to donate tools also.

Thanks so much, but we borrowed one from a friend.
