The Coalition for Cobb's Hill Park wishes to maintain Cobb's Hill Village, which provides housing for Rochester seniors with very low incomes ($ 12,600 to $20,500) until the deed on the land expires in 2041. At that time, the land and its buildings revert to the city.

Here are some comments from the current residents.  https://www.facebook.com/COBBSHILLPARK/videos/422566154873366/?hc_r...

I believe these housing units must be modernized for them to be available for people 20 years from now.  And more are necessary.  The plan has been modified from the original and seems acceptable.

As our zoning boards continue to allow our historical city buildings to be torn down to convert the character of our main streets into mirrors of our suburbs, here is a presentation worth watching: The ghastly tragedy of the suburbs

Too bad the City of Rochester doesn't seem to share the Landmark Society's concern for historic properties.

The Landmark Society of Western New York announced Tuesday its 2014 Five to Revive, a list of historic sites it has determined to be in need of targeted revitalization.

The five sites on the list are:

  • Auditorium Theater, 875 E. Main St., Rochester;
  • Designated buildings of historic value in Rochester, including the Cataract Brewery building and the former church at 660 W. Main St.;
  • Erie Canal Warehouse, village of Brockport;
  • Hillside Cemetery and Chapel, town of Clarendon, Orleans County; and
  • Former Trinity Episcopal Church, town of Seneca Falls, Seneca County.

“The preservation efforts of the Landmark Society of Western New York continue to be focused on community revitalization,” said Wayne Goodman, executive director, in a statement. “Preservation creates local jobs, stimulates investment, increases tax revenues and builds sustainable communities.

This is the second year the Landmark Society has announced a Five to Revive list, for properties in Western New York.

Unfortunately, I found most of the author's conclusions not based on fact, but opinion.  The owner bought a Building of Designated Historic Value.  Any person buying such a property must be aware of community considerations.  Perhaps he just made a bad business decision.

Mr. Maye and his supporters are clearly playing the race card, although Milton Moss's daughter (who doesn't want a big box store across from her family home) and the PLEX neighborhood association (who are all too familiar with his style as a landlord) are among those opposing it.

Interesting perspective on the owner/potential developer of this property...
