It will be nice to have new single family homes in the neighborhood; however, our neighborhood suffered a heavy loss with the demolition of the historic Jewish Orphan Asylum.  It would have been easy to have preserved at least one of the orphanage buildings while developing the rest of the site for single family homes.  We can't afford to lose any more historically and architecturally-significant community assets.

The developer was very aggressive in asking for major zoning varances, including a request to allow to build new houses only 9' away from the backs of existing houses on Oak Hill View.  Take a tape measure and measure 9 feet of the back of your house and imagine what it would be like to have a new house built that close to yours.  Fortunately, the Zoning Board forced the developer to increase the distances, but the distances will still be tight in spots.

We have to make sure that we do better on any future development in our neighborhood.
