Luminary Evening is a tradition that started in the 19th Ward during the Winter of 2006. Some neighbors got the idea that it would be great to have an occasion in the middle of Winter for neighbors to get out and enjoy the Community Spirit and Friendship that exists during the Summer when lots of neighbors are out and about. Martin Luther King Day was chosen, since it occurs at the right time and one of his life goal was connecting all peoples in the US in community spirit, friendship and mutual respect.
