I stopped by El Latinos new store at the old KFC on chili this week for lunch. The new store is very nice and the food was excellent.

Not sure if anyone has ever posted the web site for Christenson Corporation, the developer at Brooks Landing. Here it is Click on Projects at the bottom of the home page and then select from the four Brooks Landing links that include Staybridge Suites, The Flats, Business Center, and Condos. There's lots of information.
On Thursday, Nov. 19 @ 6 p.m. the SouthWest Common Council (SWCC) will be meeting in the Wilson Foundation Academy (200 Genesee St) auditorium as Riverfront Development is on the agenda and a large crowd is hoped for and expected. This is an opportunity to work toward a win-win-win scenario (community/UR/developer). The SWCC is made up of representatives and stakeholders from the five different neighborhoods that make up Sector 4. Join us!!
Wow! Thanks Marian. I think everyone ought to see this so they are not surprised. As one of our local and horrid car dealers says, "this is HUGE, Rochester," so be aware and also be thinking it's a good thing. We will be fortunate to have such development coming to our area. We need it, the area must be revitalized. Some will complain about losing a view, but we will be gaining jobs and property value. The alternative is grim.

This is actually the best news we have had in 25 years. Combine it with the revitalization plans for Genesee and soon Thurston Road, and we may be able to become a thriving community again. The Brooks Landing area was an historic place in Rochester for a trading center and a place for crossing the river. It was the major artery for bringing supplies up into the area. Go to the library and read!

We must continue to have a community dialog on development. We are now "on the map" for many new and exciting things, but as is always the case there are some who would like more development, and others who are saying "enough is enough".

I am hoping to hear from people through Facebook, Location 19, e-mail, snail mail, and at events like the 19th Ward Annual Convention so that we can find the best balance between the two positions.

We don't have to accept just anything that comes down the road, but we must understand that our neighborhood has seen far too little development over the past 40 years. As major businesses like Dorschel Buick, O'Connor Chevrolet, Ralph Pontiac, Wegmans, and others left, there was no real development that replaced them. We are now at a point where over $60M has been invested at Brooks Landing, and we might see this investment in our neighborhood grow by tens of millions of dollars more.

The meeting on November 19th will be a good opportunity to talk about development. I met with Ron Christenson yesterday, and he will be attending, and can talk about his plans. The meeting will also coincide with the 1-year anniversary celebration of the opening of the Staybridge Suites.
