Chief Moore just resigned his position as Police Chief- effective Monday......
I am getting a sense that we (City residents) are in for a lot of chaos and change in the coming months- new chief, new mayor, special vs. regular elections, etc. I had hoped that the political season would END with elections but I fear that Rochester is about to enter into post-election political chaos.
Anyone have thoughts about what will happen here in the coming weeks and months??

Never a dull moment in Rochester...
Here is the D&C article: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20101105/NEWS01/1011050... .
Just found this on James Sheppard on the City site: http://www.cityofrochester.gov/article.aspx?id=8589936098
What puzzles me is why he is resigning, especially since he wants to remain in the community and in police work. Possibly because Duffy is leaving?
I agree with Mark. Why is he abruptly resigning if Duffy said he has done nothing wrong, and it has nothing to do with his health. Something seems fishy here to me.
Has anyone considered that he might have wanted Duffy's endorsement for Mayor and was told that was not going to happen? Just a thought I'm throwing out there.
All the more reason for us to knit ourselves together tightly. There are some things we can't control. We have to focus on the things we can. (It makes me think of Serenity Prayer.) If we focus on the things we can control - building stronger relationships within our community - we may actually have an impact on some of the things that are out of our control at the moment. We have to model for our peers and all ages the same conflict resolution strategies we are telling our youth they need to adopt. (I wonder why it's so hard for them?)

Case in point: The Boutet's and I have opposing views on how the Boulder situation should be handled. This opposition has not created hostility between us; in fact, it has increased our communication and resulted in the expansion of information via Location19. It has not resulted in our diminishing the other's point of view and it has not resulted in disrespect.

One thing is certain, if we don't work together and respect each other, those who have their own self interest in the forefront will easily be able to infiltrate and re-focus us, dismantling and delaying any progress towards a reasonable quality of life.

Lately, I've been feeling like we're living in the OK Corral. Shooting and other bold crimes in broad daylight has become the norm. That's not okay. We have no chance of addressing this very deadly issue if we don't talk to each other, support each other where we can, and figure out how to be hospitable despite different points of view. And perhaps, with increased communication and connection, we'll find out we aren't really that different at all and want pretty much the same thing: peace, acceptance, and justice.
I wonder if by making room for Sheppard to be chief Moore might not be setting himself up for a state appointment or as suggested earlier elected office. But it will be a rough ride for a while I am afraid.
