I have met the folks featured in the 13WHAM story and they have been at this crime prevention stuff a really long time. My personal opinion re: the 19th ward efforts is that we're just now really trying to get more organized about this issue in terms of finding new ways to share information with a broader group of people. We have always had a lot of people concerned about crime in our neighborhood, but we also (in MY opinion) have had many people who have not wanted to publically acknowledge the extent of some of the issues we face - i.e. gangs, robberies, drug dealing, etc.
Shawn, I think that your efforts in terms of developing a functional, easy to access social networking site has done quite a bit to move us into the 21st century -THANK YOU!) maybe we can be featured in the next news story re: this event :-)
