Significant police presence on Arnett- west of Thurston

FYI- there is a very significant event happening this evening on Arnett -WEST of Thurston. Several streets are closed off and there are upwards of 25 -30 police cars, detective cars, etc in various parts of the neighborhood. (Thurston, Roxborough, Arnett, etc) I asked one officer who was sitting in an east side car several blocks from the scene for information and he fairly rudely told me "i don't know anything" and closed his door (he wasn't busy doing anything that I could see but apparently a bit cranky this evening!).... I asked a few people standing outside about what was going on - most knew nothing but one woman said that there is a 'home invasion with a hostage' situation. It appeared that there was a SWAT team on Arnett but the street is dark so it's difficult to see. It is very disturbing to drive into our neighborhood and see this type of activity. I hope that the situation can be resolved peacefully

Apparently, this situation was resolved peacefully - that's a really good thing! The really astounding thing is that the news this morning says almost nothing about what happened - that seems very strange given the significant amount of police presence last night. A section of our neighborhood was essentially shut off for 7 + hours. Neighbors several blocks away could hear police on bullhorns around 11 PM. Many residents in the immediate area were displaced for hours on end - I don't know if anything was arranged to give those people shelter during the ordeal.  It would be very helpful to get a full briefing from the police about what happened. These kinds of events can be very traumatic for our neighbors and neighborhood - some timely follow up and sharing of information might help!

Here is the summary from the PCIC (Police Citizen Interaction Committee) report.  "V" means victim.  "A" refers to someone who was arrested.  According to a D&C article, Robert Pulley was awaiting trial for murder.  Definitely, the RPD did the right thing.

Hostage Situation Robbery: Thurston 5/3/11, 18:37 (52)

V- MB, born in ‘77, Chili Ave.

A1- Robert Pulley, MB, 7/1/69, 357 Chili Ave, 304617 (Rob 1st)

A2-Jonathon Cole, MB, 2/23/61, 603 Ave. D 353858 (CPW)

A3-Timothy Samuel, MB 12/16/83, 161 Thurston Rd. 353860 (CPW)

A4-Jennifer Samuel, FB, 6/4/65, 161 Thurston Rd, 353859 (CPW)

Officers responded to a 911 call at 161 Thurston Rd.  for a male threatening to shoot another male inside the downstairs apartment.  Officers quickly established a perimeter around the house.  Almost immediately upon the establishing the perimeter, A1 fled from the location but was apprehended after a foot pursuit.   A short while later, the V1 came out of the location with a head injury and said that he came to the location with a friend (V2) to look at the apartment to consider renting it.  When he went to the location, he said that he was accosted by three gunman who bound him with duct tape and pistol whipped him.  The victim said he was able to get away, but the men were still in the house.  ETF (SWAT) and CNT (Hostage negotiators) were on scene as three other individuals eventually came out of the house.  They were identified as:  A2, A3, and A4.  V2 was later located on Salina St. and he was treated and released from Strong Hosp. for a head laceration.
