Hello everyone-
I and one of my Social Work colleagues have been working with a number of SW entities to develop a Service Learning experience for 35 MSW students at the Greater Rochester Collaborative Social Work Program (Brockport/Nazareth College -GRC MSW Program )
Our students will be engaged in a number of different activities throughout the SW from late May until the end of June. Part of their work will be creating a SW Asset Map and other resources that can be shared with the community.
As part of the student experience, I am looking for 'volunteers' who would be willing so spend time with students and introduce them to the community. Some possible things you could do would include the following: host 2-3 students for a meal, give students a 'tour' of the neighborhood, introduce students to neighbors, etc.
If you are interested in helping out with this or if you have any questions, please send me an email at: mmeath@brockport.edu or a message through this site.
Thanks!
Margy

Sorry for the delay and getting back to you Margy. I always have twice as many things to do as I have time for. We can probably do something with some of your students. Just make sure anyone you send my way likes dogs. When are you looking to get these folks involved. This Saturday is the Ease on Down Thurston event which might be a good time for you to stroll the group down the avenue. It was a pretty festive event last year. I'm going to be tied up with PAC-TAC part of that afternoon but hopefully you can find someone who knows the area to show them around that day.
Thanks John-
Our students don't start classes until next week so they will miss "Ease on Down Thurston" but I know there will be other opportunities for them to get involved - one of the 'assignments' students will have is to attend at least one community meeting/event outside of their specific service learning project. I am creating a list of all of the possibilities including: Square Fair, PLEX Charrette, Seed Folks and others.
We are still interested in hearing from any local residents who would be willing to spend a bit of time with students to introduce them to the SW community!
