If we are thinking of the same place on Chili, down a bit on the left heading west, it was Best Place Cafe. Sound right? It was open for a while, but they did not get many customers. Food was good, southern cooking, not expensive. If that is where you mean, it was lack of awareness and customers.

Yes, that was it! Thanks Mark. I knew someone on here would no. It's too bad, but seems to be the theme with many places in the 19th Ward.

Restaraunt businesses are the hardest. Most do not make it, with about 1/3rd or more failing after a year. Not enough capital to get through the first two years when they do not and cannot expect to make money. They have to have enough money to go for a few years without making money, and if they promote and have a good product, then they can become profitable.
