POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT - ORGANIC FARM TO RESTAURANT COORDINATOR
Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York, Inc.

The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York, Inc. (NOFA-NY) is the oldest and largest organization in New York devoted to organic and sustainable farming and gardening, and counts over 800 farms among its 1700 members of farmers, gardeners, and eaters.  We are seeking an Organic Farm to Restaurant Coordinator to coordinate 3 workshops and a March 2013 conference for organic farmers and NYC restaurateurs.    The position requires a self-starter who has experience in customer service, event coordination, and either organic farming or restaurant management.  The person must be passionate about local organic food and farming and supporting NYS organic farmers. This position is a contract position from May 2012 until July 2013.  Time required is approximately 20 hrs/wk from May 2012 through January 2013, and 40 hrs/wk during February and March 2013, and less than 20 hrs/wk after the conference through July 2013.  The position’s staff contact will be the Operations & Development Director and attendance at 3 Rochester meetings will be required throughout the term of the contract.
 
Specific Responsibilities
Program Coordination:  
• Communicate with Program Advisory Committee on event program, objectives and logistics.
• Contract event venues, A-V support, and necessary equipment and supplies within project budget and with approval from NOFA-NY.
• Identify and solicit sponsors and trade-show vendors for conference.
• Identify, recruit and coordinate speakers and workshop hosts.
• Develop event brochure and program text ; coordinate with graphic designer.
• Identify and collaborate with potential partners.
• Communicate with the chefs at event locations to solidify menus and ingredient lists that include 100%  locally sourced organic foods.  
• Communicate pre-event and on-site needs with NOFA-NY staff (registration, tradeshow, donations, event support).
• Provide technical assistance and support to restaurants and farms seeking information about farm sourcing, pricing and distribution.
• Develop support materials and resources for NOFA-NY.
 
On-Site Management:
• Ensure all staff and volunteer areas are running smoothly: registration, tradeshow, meals, programming, etc.
• Introduce and thank keynote speakers, advisory committee members and other VIPs as appropriate.
 
Post-Event Responsibilities:
• Write thank you letters to all food donors ,event chefs, sponsors, presenters and committee members.
• Write a 6-month and final project report.
 
Compensation
This position is an independent contractor position.  Compensation: $10,000-$13,000 dependent on experience, plus travel to attend necessary events.  
 
Qualifications
• Experience:  Experience in event planning, local food procurement, committee management. Organic farming and restaurant management experience preferred.
• Skills: Highly organized, very detail-oriented, excellent customer service, strong interpersonal and training skills; access to high-speed internet required; proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word required.
• Capabilities: High energy and enthusiasm. Ability to work well with a wide range of people and under pressure, handle multiple tasks at once, adapt to changing situations on a daily basis.
• Conditions: Strong interest in and commitment to promoting the goals of NOFA-NY.  Occasional travel required.

Quality Control Inspectors

  • ·         Must have experience inspections of plastic parts, assembly’s, and materials using a variety of measuring devices and visual comparison methods
  • ·         Records and maintains all inspection instructions and data
  • ·         Notifies manufacturing personnel of dimensional non-conformances in a timely manner
  • ·         Prepares First Article Inspection Reports for new and revised products
  • ·         Assists Quality Manager as required on quality audits

 

General Labor/Printing

  • ·         Must have printing experience
  • ·         Must have vehicle
  • ·         Must be able to work weekends

 

Machine Operator/Plastics

  • ·         Must have experience working with plastics
  • ·         Must have experience operating machines
  • ·         Must be able to stand/sit for an 8 hour shift, lift 35 pounds and be able to perform repetitious work

 

Electrical-Mechanical Assembly

  • Must be able to drive out to Victor, NY
  • ·         Hand soldering experience specifically with RF coaxial connectors.
  • ·         Familiarity with circular Mil-Spec and Sub-D connectors.
  • ·         Can read and interpret drawings accurately.
  • ·         Can use basic hand tools such as rulers, cable cutters, tweezers, brushes and some more advanced tools such as crimpers.
