Job Posting:  Parent Resource Expert (PRE)

Parent Resource Expert Position 2011

 

Position:   Parent Resource Expert -  Full Time:  35 hours per week.  Salary:     $27, 500

 

Position Qualifications:

An individual with lived experience of the children’s mental health system, such as that gained through parenting a child with complex mental health needs.  Other system knowledge is a plus ( for example, Juvenile Justice , Child Welfare, etc.).  Knowledge of the neighborhood / community and culture of the geographic area that will be served including cultural norms.  Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required.  Prefer at least some college.  Candidates must have a NYS driver’s license and a clean driving record.  All candidates must have fingerprint record clearance done by the NYS Office of Mental Health Applicants must have and  maintain reliable transportation and current insurance coverage.  A driver’s abstract is required at time of hiring.

 

Position Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A working knowledge of strength language is required.
    • A successful candidate will be non- judgmental, supportive, and have at least a minimum understanding of basic parenting skills.
  • Willing and able to train in other skill areas.
  • Able to work as part of a team, but also to work independently.
  • Knowledge of the neighborhood in which they work. 

 

  •  Document all interactions.
    • Gather data, track progress and provide outcome data as requested on all interactions.
    • Provide cultural brokering and outreach.
    • Establish relationships with area organizations to share general information about mental health such as signs and symptoms developed for the Rochester City School District Safe Schools / Healthy Student grant in partnership with MCOMH.
    • Provide information about their role in supporting families and encouraging the broader community people to refer families or have families refer themselves.
    • Establish relationships with key organization who serve youth at higher risk for serious emotional disturbance or with significant mental health challenges ( i.e.), Industry, Children’s Detention Center, and other Juvenile Justice Facilities.

 

  • Provide Information and Resources
    • Conduct a strength and needs based assessment by phone or in person for all families.
    • Provide and support a connection to the service / support identified and make sure the connection occurs.
    • Conduct follow up to evaluate the success of the connection.
    • Provide and track flex funds, as needed, to support connection to identified service / support.
    • Provide resource support to engaged families following a traumatic event, if needed.

 

  • Refer to Monroe County’s Family Access Connection Team ( FACT )
    • Evaluate level of need and refer to FACT when appropriate.
    • Follow up to monitor connection with FACT.
