There have been some serious fires in the south west part of the city, and I wanted to make sure everyone knew about some additional resources. The Rochester Fire Department does an incredible job, and will come out to your home (or apartment) and check smoke detectors & carbon monoxide detectors to be sure that you and your family are protected. In addition, this area is home to Prevention 1st - an organization that works to prevent unintentional injury with a focus on preventing fire related injury! They have a number of tools available on their web-site, including an interactive game that you can use with children, a frightening video that follows two families with children as they respond to realistic smoke and fire drills, and a host of other information. Check it out! Prevention1st and homefiredrill
This information is NOT just for families with young children - when was the last time YOU figured out how you'd escape in case of a fire? And, what about frail elderly in our neighborhoods? Help get the word out - thanks.
