2nd Annual "Taste of Chili Avenue" Fest to be held Sat. 7/24

The Second annual Taste of Chili Avenue Festival will be held Saturday, July 24, from noon to 6 p.m., on Chili Avenue.

The main stage at the HSBC parking lot at Chili and Thurston will feature jazz, Rhythm and Blues, and a host of other performances. A second stage in the parking lot at the New Progressive Cathedral Church of God in Christ at 410 Chili will feature gospel music and other spiritual performances.

The event is sponsored by the Chili Avenue Business Alliance and paid for in part by the City of Rochester.

Among the music performers will be Rochester sensation Timothy Mitchum, blues legend Joe Beard, jazz recording artist Jimmy Highsmith, Queen Kijana, "Li'l Swag" (an 8-year-old rapper), and the SWAN Band. Other performers include the mime dancers of the Urban Performing Arts Center, the Destiny Dance Team, poet Sharnet Wilson, and the Evolution Steppers.

In addition, there will be numerous activities for children and youth, including a bouncy house, face painting and a basketball competition at Gardiner Recreation Center.

For additional information please call the CABA president Hurley Davis, 503-8737.

Here are some pictures I shot at the Taste of Chili Avenue Festival. Thanks Georgia for posting this event and for all the work you did for this event. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent there. I got these as the SWAN Band was getting started. I watched their performance then went down to to the Gospel Stage at the Progressive Cathedral Parking lot. On the way I stopping by Georgia's display of her exquisite photographic prints to do a little shopping.

By the time I went back over to the HSBC stage the parking lot was beginning to fill with more and more people coming to hear the music.

I had to leave around 2:30 but drove back by around 3:30 and the crowd had more than doubled. It started raining some time around 4:30PM. When I drove by at 5:30 the crowd had thinned a lot but the musicians were still playing and the die-hard music lovers were still listening, huddled under whatever shelter they could find.

Here is a link to a Kodak Gallery album with all the pictures I took:
