Great Idea! Shawn, drove by your street the other day, And thought we should all plant front yard gardens. Why have lawn when you can have flowers? Good source is Michael Warren Thomas on Trafalgar St., whose whole front yard is NOT GRASS. Take advantage of what little space we have to garden!

I have been putting in grasses, like blue fescue, wheatgrass, and another, Carl F.If anyone wants suggestions, a great catalog is http://www.highcountrygardens.com/

Hope to see you at Square Fair!

Marian,

What a great idea! I have started a Garden Group as a side group for Location19. Let's see who is interested! Anyone with an interest can simply join the group, and we can go on from there. Once we have some people signed on, we can decide when to get together! We can have occasional meetings at our convenience. I think (know) there is a strong gardening community in the 19th Ward.

Thanks for planting the seed, Marian, let's see what grows!

There are many beautiful gardens in the neighborhood, some of which are showcased with a formal tour organized by the 19th Ward Community Association every couple of years. I've been thinking for a while that there might be enough interest to start a group that would get together from time to time, sip a little iced tea in someone's beautiful backyard retreat, trade stories (both successes and disasters that ended up as compost heap additions), swap plants and tips, etc.

What do you all think?
