Minutes of Arnett Block Meeting
January 26th, 2016
Minutes submitted by Susan 436-1628

Officer DiMaria said that the only report he had of crime in our area
recently (January) was an altercation between two females on Warwick where
one shot at the other but no one was hurt. The woman (she fled in a car)
with the gun was arrested and the gun was found in her glove compartment
with one shell used. One of our members had her car stolen on Dec. 27th.
The youth who stole it was arrested along with his friend. She has finally
gotten the car back after a long ordeal of getting it out of the pound and
then getting it repaired, plates reissued, etc. There were also 3 large
store front windows broken on the same evening-video shows several youth
(12-15 year olds) breaking one of the windows.

We talked about the continuing problem with the youth on Arnett and what
options are open to them for alternatives to hanging out on Arnett. The
Boys and Girls Club renovation is nearing completion and may have reopened
already. Teen Empowerment is active in the area. The SW YMCA has a youth
program called Teen City. New Life Men's group is rallying to reach out to
the youth and His Branches may be able to collaborate with them-more on
that to come. A meeting is being held at 3 pm on Feb. 13th for those
interested in helping with a Christian outreach to these youth-contact
Susan if you are interested. We also talked about truancy-what to do if
you see them during school hours on the street. There is not much that can
be done. Andy will check into that. There used to be a group called "the
Blitz", led by Jerome Underwood, that would visit the homes of truants and
speak to their parents, working out problems that might be keeping them
from attending and also alerting parents to the problem.

Brittany Wells from the Mayor's office came and brought info about Roof
repair help and other brochures-there are flyers at the doctor's office at
340 if you are interested. The deadline for applying for roof relief is
coming up the end of February.

Some dates for your calendar:
Gardener's Potluck-for those interested in helping with the maintenance of
our Bird and Butterfly Park at Arnett and Wellington. Call Susan if you
are interested. Sunday, March 6th at 5:30 at 374 Wellington bring a dish
to share and some wrapped candy that will fit in a plastic Easter egg. We
stuff 500 eggs after dinner.

Easter Egg Hunt-led by Rora. March 26th at 1 pm at the B and B Park. Come
at 12 to help hide eggs.

Bike Clinic - RCommunity Bikes has agreed to come and do another bike clinic
with raffle on May 21st 1-4? in the parking lot at 350 Arnett.

Block Party - August 6th. We are beginning to plan and have received a
generous donation which we will use toward the horses. Susan has connected
with the "Pearls", the step team from Wilson and they may be interested in
coming to perform. Ideas? give Susan a call.

We are thinking about reaching out to School #29 for a Game day in the
park in June that would end up at the library and focus on the summer
reading program, similar to the Christmas tree decorating and library
visit. Thoughts? Volunteers?

We closed our meeting in prayer for our community.
Next meeting is February 23rd and we will have Dave Culeton give us an
update on the building at Arnett and Rugby. Also we will have a guest from
RIT who is doing research on citizens' perception of justice and would
like to interview some volunteers. See you then!
