Minutes of September 22,2015 Arnett Block Meeting

Submitted by Susan Morehouse

We had a good turnout last night and had a lively discussion about the problems facing our neighborhood this summer and fall.
Probably the largest problem is the frequent gathering of youth on Arnett and the subsequent fighting, blocking of the street, vandalism, etc. Most recently the young people have been pulling up the lose pavers in front of His Branches and carrying them around the neighborhood, throwing some at houses and windows.  (217 Aberdeen) We discussed the need to have the city repair the lose pavers (pushed up by the large tree roots of the locust trees). We also want to find out if the RPD camera is coming to Arnett soon. We would like to meet with our CPOs and address this problem and find out what can be done to disperse the youth, many of whom don't live in our neighborhood.
Some other problems we discussed:
The driveway between Dave Culeton's building and the house behind him on Rugby (north east side) is a hangout for craps, drug dealing and loitering.

Accident August 18th at Warwick and Frost -two cars rolled over and four children were sent to the hospital with minor injuries -serves as another indicator there is a speeding problem and failure to stop at stop sign.

295/297 Rugby-continues to have tenant problems which are affecting the entire block. Please make as many calls as are necessary so that the police can see what a problem this is. Dave Culeton is going to work with us on this issue.

329/331 Arnett-neighbors report drug dealing, domestic violence and garbage problems (front and back yards). Concerns were raised as there are children who live there.

301 Wellington-neighbors report there is drug dealing and late night noise (early morning noise, too).

Susan will contact the NSC and will set up a time and location to meet with our CPOs to talk about the youth problem on Arnett and will send out a notice about that meeting. Susan will also write letters to the landlords responsible for these properties.

On a lighter note, we were awarded a Best Community Enhancement Garden Award from the city for the beautiful garden at Arnett and Wellington. The awards ceremony will be at Strong Museum on October 22nd from 6-8 pm. More to follow! We also had a great block party with a fun and peaceful gathering of about 300-400 people. Check out the pictures in the front window of His Branches!
Consider a work day to clean up leaves in the Bird and Butterfly garden, November 7th or 14th.
Our next meeting is October 27th.
See you then!
