As is the season again, yesterday afternoon we had a call for door to door IDT energy sales on Aldine Ave near Woodbine.  We caught up with them on Post.  They, of course had no solicitors permit.  More importantly, when I got a chance later to run record checks on the fellows we stopped, both have arrest/convictions- one for larceny and robbery and the other marijuana charges.  We told them not to continue and we intend to follow-up today with the company as much as we can.  The ‘office address’  is a warehouse, so I don’t have high hopes.  Please forward a warning email to everyone to keep their eyes open for this type of activity and call 911 with description, direction of travel and if seen- any vehicle associated.  Most of the door to door people are just looking to make money.  IDT placed a Craigslist ad offering ‘$400-600 a week’, so I generally don’t fault the people who fell for that.  I am bothered by these last two however- they aren’t generally felons!  For the record, someone applying for a business permit in the city is subject to a background check.  However, they can hire whoever they want to go door to door as long as they get solicitors permits.
