Volunteer Opportunity - Thurston/Ravenwood Pocket Park

Hello Fellow 19th Warders!
For the past few years I have been responsible for the maintenance of the small pocket park at the corner of Thurston Road and Ravenwood
Avenue. I suffered a stroke at the end of February so my situation has changed and I can no longer physically handle
the tasks. Though my
situation could be much more dire, for now I do not know my abilities
for the summer of 2010.

Since 2001 much volunteer energy and time has been invested in creating and maintaining this park . WITHOUT continued maintenance the plant material and energy will be
lost. I believe this small corner of the 19th ward is important
because it adds value, color, texture, and beauty to our neighborhood,
and because it provides a calming influence to the rowdy activities
that take place on the Thurston Road strip.

To keep the garden thriving, we need folks who will step forward to commit to the following activities for the summer of 2010
Day of Caring: May 13th. One day (9:00-3:00) supervise 10-20 adults who volunteer to rake, weed, trim, & mulch the entire park.
Mow lawn: as needed throughout the entire summer
Plant Annuals: May 22,2010
Weed, deadhead,& water: as needed throughout the entire summer
Plant bulbs: Oct. 2, 2010
If you are interested in taking responsible or even mildly interested in helping please give Ann Robinson at the Association
Office a call 328-6571 to leave your name &contact information.
All offered energy & time would be very much appreciated.

Below are some pictures of the park, so you can see that it's worth the effort to keep it beautiful!

Thank you. Joanne DeMarle
