Although the hoodlums make the headlines, regular people do regular things - like growing show-class Dahlias - every day in southwest Rochester. Justin Murphy, Democrat & Chronicle Staff Writer, will be at Gerry Kloc's, 1407 Genesee St across from the GVP tennis courts, tomorrow to gather info for an article. Why not stop by at 5:30, look at some gorgeous flowers, find out how to grow them yourself, and strike a blow for normalcy.

Hello flower lovers, and thanks Marian et al for reminding us of the Kloc garden...I will stop by on 9/24 at 5:30pm.....Happy Fall, MacClurg
Sorry, the confusion may have been due to a 21 that looked like a 26, due to bad handwriting! If you go from Genesee St. onto Mineola, it is about the second lot on the left. There are some posts from the city in front. We are going back for a visit next Tuesday evening, 9/24, at 5:30.
It is actualy the lot at 21 Mineola Street, not 26 which is across the street. Check it out on Google maps: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=21+Mineola+Street,+Rochester,+NY&...
Mark, I stopped on Mineola St. in front of stockade fence and looked for garden, I even asked a person walking by, he didn't know either. Didn't want to walk into anyone's yard. I will try again. Thanks!
Hellen,
Can't imagine where you were; see the D&C article that Marian posted link to below.
I stopped over 26 Mineola St. and all I saw was a stockade fence..disappointed!
Gerry has invited us back if you missed this first visit. Stop by 26 Mineola St. (the empty lot filled with 600 dahlias) around 5:30 PM. There are many more buds that he predicts will be blooming then, depending on the weather in the coming days. You are welcome to visit any time, and look but don't pick! What a great treasure for our neighborhood!
Apparently the Democrat & Chronicle felt it was time for some good news for the SouthWest quadrant too. Here's a link to their front-page article and video on Gerry Kloc's garden. Thanks to Gerry for growing these dazzlers, and to Justin Murphy of the D&C for covering his storyhttp://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=20133....
