Some sad news from 19th WCA:
This is a sad day. We learned today that one of our dearest friends, and a staunch volunteer, died this week. We say good-bye and thank you to Bill Nichthauser. He will be missed by so many of us – his music community, his friends at the Southwest Family YMCA, his neighbors, those of us who worked with him at 19WCA, and most of all, his family of cats that he cared for in and out of his house.

From Friends.... have picked up his cat, and is being well cared for.  Bill was unique, and well-loved by all who knew him.  We will miss him greatly.  I remember him from walking PAC TAC one winter day, when we used to do it two times a month.  It was in a blizzard on a freezing night, and we walked all the way from Genesee down Brooks to Thurston, and then on.  Bill was a trouper.   The most important thing is that he was a gentleman, a thinker, and a person who cared about who he was talking to.  I salute you.

Please note we will have information about an upcoming commemoration for Bill within a few weeks.

We are waiting to see from family if they have plans to attend.  More info later.

If anyone would like to share memories of Bill here, please feel free to post.

Services will be held sometime in June.  Will keep you informed.

A memorial sign will be placed in the Meditation Garden at Rapids Cemetery, honoring all buried there, and in memory of Bill.  It will be located by the Bleeding Hearts grouping, which you will not see after Spring, as they die back to emerge only for a few weeks.

August 9th a grand celebration of Bill's life was held once his family could join us.  It was in conjunction with "Beats at Brooks," that night featuring Nate Rawls Community Band.  Bill played with the band, originally SWAN Band, from its inception.  In addition to the band, friends and neighbors related reminisces of their times with Bill, and his ties to the community.  The band fittingly ended the evening with "When the Saints go Marching In."

Here is the YouTube link for the video I made of the August 9th SWAN Band concert in remembrance of Bill Nichthauser: https://youtu.be/jDxxjjsTe48.  For all the friends who were able to come to the event, thanks for being part of the celebration.  For those who could not make it, I hope this video will help bring you a sense of closure.  We will all miss Bill very much.
