City Council recently approved a six-month moratorium on issuing nuisance points to bars...

Our complaints about the "clubs" on Thurston have been largely ignored.  Now, it seems, there is no need to bother at all.

Neighbors,

Please contact Adam McFadden and his asssistant, John Borek, expressing your displeasure with City Council's decision to suspend nuisance points on "entertainment" businesses, most particularly how it affects our own Thurston Road. Quoting from the Democrat & Chronicle article of July 7:

"...At McFadden's suggestion, City Council recently approved a six-month moratorium on issuing the points. McFadden thinks venues that cater to minorities, youth and low-income people are targeted unfairly..."

It seems to me that minorities, youth, and low-income people are also disproportionately the victims of shootings, stabbings and assaults outside these venues, not to mention the demoralizing effect this violence has on our residents.

I would certainly say most of the people that visit Thurston Bar and Grill make much more money than I do, as a part-time worker. I cannot afford to visit there, as it costs too much. And I certainly would not categorize them as a place that caters to youth. They do not cater to minorities, either, as most of the patrons are black, the majority of residents in this part of the city.

In fact, minorities such as middle-aged gay white men have been beaten in the back parking lot there, and when asked to call 911, the door slammed shut.

So there is no credibility to the statement that "venues that ... etc. "are targeted unfairly." I would like to see them targeted more. Any venue that has problems deserves attention.
