It is regret that I announce here that I will not be organizing this year's (actually next years Martin Luther King 2011) Luminary Evening due to health reasons.  I am happy to consult with anyone or any group that wants to work on organizing this years event/s.  I am hopeful that someone/s will step forward to take over the leadership role.

Failure is impossible (Susan B. Anthony). If just you put luminaries in your front yard, it's a start. I plan to attend the hot chocolate tent and will advertise it to 19 South. Check with Donna Sarkis on the NE corner of Post and Congress; she may help with Post (or at least her block of Post).
Do we have any new information on the status if the Luminary event that we can present to the Delegate's Council meeting tonight?

From this discussion, it sound like no one has stepped forward organize it in the same fashion as the last few years, but some folks are interested in continuing the tradition on their own. This may be a good solution if we do not have an organizer, but we will need leads on materials and supporting stores.

DeWain, I've never participated in this before, so I don't know what is exactly involved with it.  I can tell you that I'm on Virginia Ave and I'm trying to get Virginia and Post involved in it.  I'm trying to get the school across the street (used to be #37, not sure exactly what number it is now) involved as well.  I've been in touch with the parent rep and he and the principal both feel that this is a great idea to get the school involved.  On Monday, I will get the paperwork to complete to use the school grounds because my thought was to have the residents of Virginia and Post put out their luminaries and then gather to socialize on the school's fields.

Jodi,

Thanks for volunteering to organize a luminary event on Virginia.  We are still working on trying get informatio on obtainining the supplies for the kits and distributing the gifts.

I also see that you are the president of the Virginia Street block club.  I will be the 19thWCA President in 2011, and one area of focus that I want to work on is improving the communication between the various groups in the area.  Please feel to communicate with any member of the 19thWCA Executive Committee about any concerns, inputs or questions that you or any Virginia Street resident have.

Hello Dan,

Can you send me your contact information so I may help?   I have a few people who have expressed interest in assisting.

LaShay

Good news.  LaShay Harris has volunteered to be the coordinator for the Luminary event this year.
