Here is a link to Rabbi Asher Yaras' web site describing the purchase contract and capital campaign progress for the Boulder Coffee building as of December 10, 2010 :  A Message from Rabbi Asher & Devorah Leah

In the upper right-hand corner of this page are links to overall budget, targeted  donations, and interior photos of the building as it stands today.

And just will ALL these students and faculty PARK?

"And this is a picture from the other side of the building. Look how much parking we have! "

This was taken from  Rabbi Asher Yaras' web site, I find it hard to believe that they think this is a lot of parking. I've either walked or on a Sunday parked at the auto parts place next door because parking is so limited.  Perhaps Students and families will be walking or parking in the hotel parking spaces.I certainly don't think there is much parking.

Wow- there is a LOT of money being spent on this building!

875K in capital expense (is that the cost of the building)

250K in renovations!

Imagine what we could do with a MILLION PLUS dollars to better our neighborhood!?

I had heard that Elysha was getting $1 million for the building but thought that that must have been an exaggeration. Now, I'm not so sure. Even if it's "only" $875,000, that's a nice profit for a smart real estate broker.

I am really trying to stay open minded about this but I am very devastated about the loss of this building.

The neighborhood would have been much better off if a vacant or marginal building were renovated instead. I understand that the rabbi wanted a building a short distance from the foot bridge (and I understand that there is validity to this desire); however, we would have been better off if there was more dialog before plans were firmed up.

You're right, DeWain. In the whole process, only business interests were given any consideration. The trickle-down theory of economics ("What's good for real estate developers and brokers is good for the 19th Ward.") was applied here, an innocent nonprofit group was duped into it, and a façade of citizen input was thrown together at a last-minute charade to accomplish this distasteful caricature of public involvement. The worst part of it is that, every time we come into the neighborhood on this main artery, we'll be reminded of this sad affair.
