I stopped for Breakfast this morning at the Brooks Landing Diner - it's located on Genesee Street in a small strip mall where the fish shop was previously located.
I was greeted by the friendly owner who was the only one working. The tables were empty so I got to choose where to sit. Service was decent and the food was good too! Less than $5 for scrambled eggs, well done homefries, toast and OJ.
The owner tells me she spent a fair amount of money rehabing the place and she's worried about competition from Subway (just down the street).
The hours at the diner are 7-4 so they're serving breakfast and lunch.
Check it out when you get a chance!

Isn't the owner awesome? When I went in there she was giving us a hardtime cracking jokes, she was great! When I went I wasn't feeling to adventurous but I am excited to try some of the options on the Asian side of the menu.
Will check it out soon Margy. Thanks for the tip because I didn't know it existed. I did a u-turn when I saw the 'OPEN' sign at Subway and went right in. I LOVE their subs. Did I miss the conversation announcing the new kid on the block, Brooks Landing Diner opening?? For me, nothing hits the spot like a good hot full breakfast vs a breakfast sandwich. I like eating breakfast with a fork. No need to be worried about the competition, Subway does what it does, and the diner do what she do!! Choices are good!! Sounds like a great place to have a breakfast meeting!!!
Margy....is it open on weekends? My favorite meal of the day os breakfast.
I forgot to check for weekend hours but I just called them (436-1234) and they said 7-4, 7 days per week!! Imagine the owner's surprise if a bunch of SW residents show up there this weekend for breakfast or lunch!!
Mark and I went for lunch on Saturday. Enjoyed the owner and staff. Food was typical diner. I had a tasty grilled tuna and cheese. There were two tables of U of R students, and one other group from the neighborhood, at about 1:30. Will go back again!
Forgot to mention specials on the menu. Three or four Korean plates that looked interesting. Will have to try one next time.
That's great news. I've made a date or breakfast on Saturday. We will be going there!
This is the first I've heard about the diner. A friend who also lives in the 19th and I plan to meet for breakfast tomorrow morning, that might be a good place to eat.
Erin and I enjoyed a fine breakfast there this morning. I will be going back.
Actually got up early sunday morn, took my D&C and enjoyed breakfast at the diner. The owner is very eager to please..she even let me choose the tv channel. I wish them every success!
Had lunch there today. Food was good and the price was very reasonable.
2 eggs over easy, home fries, sausage =4.99
cheeseburger w/ fries = 3.99
Marian and I stopped by the Brooks Landing Diner for brunch. It is a very nice place. It is clean and bright. The food was good and reasonably priced. The owner is friendly, enjoys kidding around with all the customer that came and went and is interested in pleasing them with good service. It also has a nice parking-lot which is easy to enter or leave via Genesee or Barton Street.
We were there around 11:30 and there were two other tables with customers plus a few at the counter. Several customers came for takeout while we were there. There were plenty of tables available for a small breakfast meeting. I did not notice if they had Wi-Fi.
