New Bar/Restaurant in the 19th Ward

Hello,

I recently joined the Location 19 website to make you aware of a college bar that is opening in my neighborhood. I am a longtime resident on S Plymouth Ave and I just became aware of a gentleman that is trying to open up a college bar at 1155 S Plymouth Ave. This is the same gentleman that has been buying up properties for students and evicting my friends and neighbors. I do not think the neighborhood needs a college bar. We will be inundated with drunk college kids on Friday and Saturday nights. The city and neighborhood must stand up to prevent this bar. It will only bring trouble. The bar name is Plymouth Roc. That is the same name of the gang that terrorized our streets years ago. We do not need this. We do not want this.

Except the new bar/grill is not to be located in the 19th ward (technically located in the PLEX area) or the Southwest Quadrant.

Very true, If Lucinda would like to change it to PLEX Neighborhood that would be great. If not, I am satisfied that the negative connotations associated with our first name and concept are gone. It is up to her.

The name is fine, but the location was a bit off! Just like to give props where props are due. Anthony, we will talk about the 'boundaries' at a later time (perhaps over breakfast.......... as this may NOT be the forum...................) The PLEX neighborhood sits between Corn Hill and the 19th Ward, but it is an entity with a rich heritage and not be be forgotten as is Mayor's Heights and Brown Street area. There are 5 quadrants that make up the Southwest Quadrant not just the 19th Ward. This goes wayyyyyy back to the original planning of the Sectors which I happened to be involved in. We are Sector 4 or the Southwest Quadrant as it is now known as.

Anthony, could you help clarify the zoning application 078-11-12 (case 9 coming up on April 19th)? The Zoning Application post card says that it is for "1155-1159 Genesee Street." It appears that this is a typo. I am presuming that the application is actually the application that we are talking about here at 1155 S. Plymouth. If you really have an application on Genesee Street, I'd like to hear more about it so that our Zoning Committee can take a position on it. If the application is really for this S. Plymouth property, it is outside of the 19th Ward Community Association's jurisdiction (as Judi pointed out, S. Plymouth is in PLEX).

This proposal looks like a good one. If it turns out well, I'd like to see you invest in commercial property on Thurston, Chili, Arnett or Genesee Street.

It is a typo. The card should read 1155 S. Plymouth Ave.

I wonder what the people at 1155 Genesee are thinking right now??? They must be so confused.

Truthfully, We can never have to much support. There are currently opportunities for development on Genesee. This is kinda of the pilot. If we are successful here then we would be able to justify implementing these same types of businesses elsewhere. While the current property may not be in the 19th Ward, Your support of this project would be instrumental in paving the way for future en-devours in the 19th Ward. I recently inquired with the zoning department concerning the documents of support or opposition that had been publicly filed. Unfortunately a letter of opposition with a petition consisting of 81 signatures attached had been submitted. The letter was out dated and contained a lot of misinformation. I began reviewing the petition attached to the letter and found many recognizable names. Both the President and Vice President of the South Plymouth Avenue Business Association (Bar Owners in the area) have signed the petition. In speaking with others it turns out many of the signatures were acquired in the evening hours at The Brothers Club, a local establishment. The signees were never shown the cover letter that was to be attached. You will notice that some of the petition pages do not even have any information indicating what the petition is for. It is important that the integrity of the zoning process be maintained. This is a very serious matter. Many of you have been interested in this project since the beginning. As much as I wish for all my correspondence to be positive, honesty and transparency are much more important. Below you will find copies of all the information submitted as well as my correspondance with the President and Vice President of the Plymouth Avenue Business Association. I appreciate your support on this matter. All of this information is on file and available to the public at the zoning department in city hall. If you feel as though you have been misrepresented or would like to comment on this situation you can do so by contacting Zina Lagonegro with the Bureau of Planning and Zoning at lagonegz@cityofrochester.gov

A little bit of background to understand what I am sending here. Prior to writing this I spoke with both parties on the phone. Neither party wanted to acknowledge the connection between the letter and the petition. They both maintained that the letter and the petition were separate. Neither party was able to tell me who it was that asked them to sign the petition.

O My word a low blow, but not a total TKO!!! I recognize many of the addresses on the petition to be that of landlord property. No doubt many of these folks will not even be here next year judging from the piles of debris in front of many at the 1st of the month. Many are NOT even from this neighborhood (Ridgeway Ave!!) and one signature I recognize is from a woman who has recently sold her home. Although this is a serious matter, no doubt it will only be a small bump in the road. Is the petition valid without the heading on the top of each page and most petitions have a cover letter for participants to read before signing. The cover letter is then submitted along with the signed petitions. I know, cause I have circulated a few in my day both pro and con. A complete printout of your discussions with the 'neighborhood' folks on this subject no doubt will put you in a very good light and I suggest you submit them to the Planning Board. You have had a very transparent conversation with the community since you started this endeavor (and you survived a few upper cuts from the left) and none of us stooped this low to throw a sucker punch. Not to worry.............and that's the way it is!!
