Note that this revision of the survey has been updated to compare the value placed on busing by current School 16 parents compared to past School 16 parents and non-parents. Note the extreme difference.

While I have spoken to parents who moved very near the school so it would be easy for them and their children to walk to the school, many have also chosen their child's school or their residence so that the child qualifies for busing by being more than 1.5 miles from the school of choice.

In a time where the value of neighborhood schools and parental involvement is being recognized as extremely important, the adverse impact of the current 1.5 mile rule for qualifying for busing must be considered.  Doing away with this requirement could significantly increase the number of students who attend their local neighborhood school.  That in-turn would make it easier for parents to get involved in their child's school.
