About 5 months ago, the promo video for Conkey Cruisers was posted in the Positively Southwest Rochester FB group and it was commented that we should have something like this in our neighborhood.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/Southwestgoodnews/permalink/7919999...

I said and say, why not, but let’s start simple.  Say, with a bike ride.

I have given this a little thought.

The ride could be a single ride or the start of a regular ride.  If regular, high frequency would avoid making continuing advertising a necessity.

It could be conducted on the Erie Canal Trail portion west of GVP or on a portion of the Genesee River Trial.  Alternately, it could follow the proposed bike boulevard route if it were an adult-only ride.

It could be conducted during Bike Week, between May 11th and 15th, as part of the week’s festivities.  This has the advantage of some likelihood of press.

It would require some ride marshals, more if on the street than if on trail.

People who wish to participate may need repairs.  A few mechanically inclined individuals with tools could be corralled into doing this the day of the event, including me.  Alternately, we could pursue R Community Bikes to provide this service once.  Finally, we could wait to have the initial ride until after June 9th, when the Westside Market starts back up and RCB is already doing repairs there.

Promotional work should connect with the community.  Much of the point is to get them to ride.  If there is any concern they may have, we should try to predict and address it.

Here is a little inspiration to get ideas flowing:

I recognize by being responsible for the resurfacing of this idea that I am probably taking on some of the responsibility.  I am alright with that currently, but I am typically not the most charismatic promoter or ride leader.

Thoughts? Could this work? Would anyone like to assist in doing this?

It has been brought to my attention that the Community Fair on the 18th of April might be a good way to communicate the result of our planning, whether it be a regular ride or something more, to the community.  http://www.location19.org/events/southwest-quadrant-residents-commu...

Good evening Mr. Cramp,

The Cottage Street Block Club is interested in participating in your bike events.  Would you please forward any information to us.  Thanks and take care, Elizabeth

Hi Edward

We would love to have one or two informal rides during the Arnett Trolley Stop District Better Block event on 4/25/15.  Simple rides probably from Arnett to Brooks Landing, along the trail back across the new bridge, back across the pediatrician bridge and back to Arnett.  I'd love to talk to you about that or any other ride. Part of a "better block" is bikes and pedestrians. Would love you or your groups help to make this happen.

We meet tonight at 6:30. The meeting was moved from the Wok to His Branches. We will meet next Tuesday as well. Would love your help.

I could probably lead a ride or two that day.

I did a quick mapping of the route you proposed, with some roads chosen to follow proposed bicycle boulevards or existing sharrows.  That can be seen here:  http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/672601978  I may also draw up a few alternatives tonight, time permitting.

I will try to make at least the beginning of the meeting tonight.  I will have to leave at or before 7:15 to make a prior engagement.

Depending on the number of people I might take the route down Welllington, instead of Genesee Street.  Only because some riders might feel more intimidated on Genesee Street.  However, Genesee street has sharrows, and cars stop before turning out.  Wellington has more stops on it. What's your thought?  By the way great seeing you tonight.
