Hello all,
I am sick with worry.
One of my outside charges has been missing for a week now and my fear is that something horrible has happened. I last fed Sarah, her constant companion Skooter and three other strays on Saturday May 7th. She never misses coming for breakfast even when the weather was below zero. Of all the cats I have fed, the last 5 years, she is the one I could always expect to be there.
Sarah is a beautiful shy Calico with the majority of her colors and on her back. The rest of her is white with a "bracelet" band of color on her left wrist.
Unfortunately I do not have a picture showing her beauty since she is very camera shy.
I would appreciate any news even if not joyful.
Thank You,
Inge

Sorry I forgot to post where Sarah spends her time.
Sarah and her companions are located on Dunbar/Thruston/Stanfield area.
Oh...well, if she should make her way over here, will let you know.
J.
Inge, where are you located again? I'm on Westfield, but I can keep an eye out.
Jes
Jess,
Thank you.
I doubt Sarah would travel far from home.... Dunbar St. near Thurston. She and her buddies have never been far from where they were born. At most I've seen them two or three houses down the street from where I feed them. But you never know. As Margy writes, in your heart you hope they have found a better place when they are not there one morning, but the reality is usually not so. Sarah's buddies and I miss her. We will keep looking and not give up.
Sorry to hear about this Inge - I'll keep an eye out and let you know if we see her. We 'lost' one of our regulars - Marley (the cat who is in the photo for this group!) - over a year ago. She is one of the 4 young kittens that we discovered in our backyard and they were responsible for our initiation into trap/neuter/release! Marley was always a regular and one day she just didn't return. Our hope is that she found a better place to eat/sleep but my guess is that she may have gotten sick, died, etc. I think that one of the only comforts for caretakers in these situations is knowing you did the best you could to truly enhance the quality of life for the cat. Sarah has been very lucky to have you for 5 years!!
Thank you Margy. Those word men a lot. Most people say it's only a cat "why are you so upset"? This is my second loss from my regular "morning friends".
You must have been devastated when Marley didn't return. Her picture on the Masthead is a fitting tribute to her.
Thank you for your kind words Marion. It's hard when you want to help them so much and they are afraid to trust you totally because of their experiences with people.
As I approach the area where I feed my furry charges I hope that I'll see Sarah but since this is more than a week now, I don't think I'll see her again. Even in the coldest days of the winter she was the one who was always there to greet me and ready to eat. It is hard to accept she is gone.
I have tried over the years to get the homeless cats to use shelters I've constructed and a neighbor has tried to get them to use her basement on the coldest days but that never seems to work. They were however always there for meals so I assume they had found a place that gave them both shelter and freedom.
Inge,
I replied twice on, I think it was your page. Just one thing. I had asked if Sarah's picture is the one at the side, and from what I just learned from reading your message above, I now know that it is not, and I know for whom to keep an eye out.
Bill
Hi Bill,
I want to thank you for both your post and kind words.
The cat on my profile is Charles. He's one of the lucky strays I was able to return outside after he was caught and neutered. He is such a love and follows me everywhere and when I had to make a decision to send him out to face the world I could not . He became number four in my home. As you can see he was pretty beat up when he was captured and is now so handsome. As I write this he is snuggled up to legs and sleeping peacefully.
Sarah is a calico with her patches on her back and face. The rest of her is white with a stripe of color on her left leg that always looked like she was wearing a bracelet to to me. She is very afraid of strangers and it's only been in the last year or so that she has allowed me to hug and hold her for short periods of time.
