This group is for 19th Ward residents who are concerned about the plight of stray, feral, and abandoned cats in our neighborhood. It is our goal to live in a community where all cats are treated humanely and cats and humans live in harmony.

19th Ward Community Cats was hard at work in 2015!!! In 2015, we were able to spay/neuter 287 free roaming cats in the 19th Ward as part of the City Kitty project. They were also vaccinated, and treated for fleas, worms, and parasites. That's 287 outdoor cats who've received vet care and will no longer be reproducing on our streets or be vulnerable to disease! Approximately 80 of those cats/kittens were placed for adoption with our City Kitty partner, Four-Legged Friends Animal Adoptions, Inc., and they're now in loving forever homes- off the streets entirely! Members of this group and colony caretakers volunteer their time and bear the financial burden for much of this work. If you'd like make a financial contribution to this group please take or mail your donation to the 19th Ward Community Association Office, 216 Thurston Road. Every dollar is spent on vet care for our community cats. If you'd like to help in any other way, please let us know! Thank you!!

Yes, that would be Sunday the 21st -- thanks for checking, since it's good to have it clear! To fit for both Portia and Inge shall we maybe say 3:30 pm start time?

What we will be doing is setting the date for the building session, getting the design settled, and working out fundraising. Larry at Morse lumber says that he'll be happy to work with us on the design and cut the pieces (those, or finding a skilled volunteer ready to do it on a larger scale than one-off, are what have been messing me up) but we'll need to pay for that.

Comment by Alice Carli on November 14, 2010 at 8:52am: I didn't hear much interest in meeting week nights, but did hear some people wanting to finally figure out how to get some good shelters built. I finally have a weekend (next weekend) that I could meet on Sunday afternoon or evening (4-6 area would be best for me). Would that work for others? In the mean time I can talk with Morse Lumber about helping us with shelters, perhaps by cutting the pieces for us. We can purchase them if we get donations, which we now can...!

My boyfriend helped make this styrofoam one with a tablesaw last winter, and it has been very popular with the cats: http://www.neighborhoodcats.org/HOW_TO_FERAL_CAT_WINTER_SHELTER
A sheet of the insulation is only about $8, and most any leftover paint works. I am thinking about trying to cut another with a sawzall because it would be faster. On a cold night they get 3 cats in it.

If there are others who are interested in meeting and discussing options and needs for housing, I'd be interested too.
