This group is for 19th Ward residents who are concerned about the plight of stray, feral, and abandoned cats in our neighborhood. It is our goal to live in a community where all cats are treated humanely and cats and humans live in harmony.

That is where most of our communication is happening right now. You may also contact us via the 19th Ward Community Association at 328-6571 to get on our email list.

19th Ward Community Cats was hard at work in 2015!!! In 2015, we were able to spay/neuter 287 free roaming cats in the 19th Ward as part of the City Kitty project. They were also vaccinated, and treated for fleas, worms, and parasites. That's 287 outdoor cats who've received vet care and will no longer be reproducing on our streets or be vulnerable to disease! Approximately 80 of those cats/kittens were placed for adoption with our City Kitty partner, Four-Legged Friends Animal Adoptions, Inc., and they're now in loving forever homes- off the streets entirely! Members of this group and colony caretakers volunteer their time and bear the financial burden for much of this work. If you'd like make a financial contribution to this group please take or mail your donation to the 19th Ward Community Association Office, 216 Thurston Road. 1) volunteers - booth is open 10-4; who can be there for an hour during that time?
2) literature - Teri, could you get some of your posters and cards printed? There are funds to reimburse you for this. I'll buff up my brochure draft as well.
3) 3 donation boxes, one for ($ for) shelter materials, one for TNR, one for education/caretaker support (e.g. food help, medical costs). Can someone make them, preferably nice looking, maybe with pictures on them?

We don NOT need any furniture, but Teri, you said you've got a booth tent? (was that you?)

We had talked about selling small items, but I think it might be easier this year to keep it simple. (And I did find a good site for cat collar supplies, but the site "includes shipping" and doesn't offer any expedited shipping options, so I think it's too late to order -- sorry!) But next year this would be good, I think?

Late as usual, but better than never, and some good news!

At our meeting last Sunday, Marian and Bill and I looked at further plans for Saturday week at the Square Fair. One thing we decided at once was to go ahead and rent a table When I talked with Ann Robinson just now she said that in fact they were going to try to comp us the table, which comes with 4 chairs; if they can't do so, well, we'll owe them $10 -- a nice deal anyhow!

John and Marian also talked from experience about how the noise and crowds that are usual at the Square Fair would probably not be good for a cat, so we decided NOT to go through with having an adoptable cat as part of the booth. (Marian has a nice stuffed animal she said she'll bring.)

One thing we did like the sound of, if anyone has one not in current use, is a sample cat shelter. A spiffy built wooden one would show what CAN be done -- and what it would be great to have as an autumn work day -- while a tub-in-a-tub one would show how simple it can be do do what's needful. If there are none that could be borrowed without confusing tenants, we can show pictures of both kinds. I'd like to set a date for that autumn shelter day, so we can start advertising it at the booth. Ann noted that the month of September is pretty much open as far as 19WCA activities goes, to the best of her knowledge.

I was able to get from the city maps office a perfect (i.e. large) map of the ward that we can use to start our cat census, and we talked at the meeting about the non-tech mechanics of bringing it on line (i.e. what information should and shouldn't be publicly available). I'm excited about getting started on this resource, which will include information both about cats and about people.

Finally, I just talked with Angie Burch and we now have a bank account to call our own! She will write a letter on 19WCA letterhead about the account, our status, and that of 19WCA as a non-profit that we can use to open that account for business with our Paypal account.

I'll do a separate comment/e-mail with specific items we'd like people to bring and times that people are needed, so keep an eye open for that.

I've talked with Ann Robinson about donation acknowledgments. So far, I can remember who has donated what (except I may need help remembering who was in on the $10 donations toward getting the web site up), at least of the donations I've seen and known about since this past winter.

But we'll need a way to keep track of donors, acknowledge donations as they come in, and keep track of amounts so that Ann can write official letters from 19WCA for people to use at tax time next year.

So we should talk about how we want to do that and get some sort of system started and kept track of by somebody. In the mean time, thanks to all who have helped out!

Two spaces opened up for tomorrow morning's clinic, and Marian says she's game to try trapping two more of the Rugby cats (she's been setting out food in the traps for some while). The only hitch is that my car is in the garage til Thursday or Friday, so I can't drive them there or back.

Marian says she is willing to do whatever turns out to be necessary, but if someone can help drive, especially in the morning, that would be great.

I will note that I still have the donated money for their spay/neuters at my house; I can walk it by Marian's house tonight, unless someone wants to pick it up here. That would need to be this evening, since I'll be leaving the house tomorrow morning at about 6:45 to go catch the bus...

SWAN band (of which I am a part) is playing at Square Fair. Except I dunno when. And I usually don't until the last minute. Like Marian, I'm committed to the PAC-TAC table, again, when available. I'll do my best to be at the table, or at least help in some way.Your ideas are wonderful, Alice. Thanks for making all those contacts.

I'll be at the PAC-TAC table from 12-2pm, but could do our table from 10am -12pm. My experience at previous Square Fairs is that the hours from about 9am-2pm have the best traffic. I can contribute to whatever we need for the duplicating costs.
