Would this be a place we could get updates on Voter's Walk? I'm wondering if you could start a "discussion" so that, if we miss a meeting, we can still be "in the know!"
This year has been very special for our neighborhood. We are fortunate to have so many great people and projects in the works transforming our area. Just last year we were at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Voters Block Housing Project and by April 2012 we will be celebrating the opening of a new apartment building and cafe. A new walking path connecting Troup St playground will be done this year as well.
The rehabilitation of eight historic buildings on W Main St are also underway. Opening up apartments and commercial spaces to help us make W Main a vibrant commercial strip.
The Cunningham Carriage Factory was purchased by DePaul and with their recent state grant award they will be rehabilitating the vacant factory into affordable apartments.
Last but not least Buckingham Properties has purchased the VOA building on Canal St to transform it into urban condo's and lofts. From shoe factory, spaghetti manufacturing, clothing warehouse and store, this new use for this spectacular building will be enjoyed by many for years to come.
The growth of our neighborhood can only enhance the mission of the neighborhood association as well as the Susan B Anthony House, Frederick Douglass Resource Center and our Freedomway Business Association.
We look forward to the year ahead. Creating everlasting friendships and a place that we can all be proud to call HOME!!
Happy Holidays to all!
