Have you ever wished you knew how to sew?Sewing has so many benefits—you can mend your own clothes, make gifts for family and friends, even create a new outfit you’ll be proud to wear. Now there’s a place in the SW quadrant of Rochester where you can learn to do it all—and you can even get the fabrics and notions you need, at a fraction of the cost you’d pay in retail stores. At SewGreen@Rochester, anyone in the greater Rochester community can learn the basics of sewing, and even use one of the…See More

Our Neighborhood Merchants

The objective of this group is to introduce residents of the SW Quadrant to the businesses in their community with the hope that if they are more aware of them they will patronize them more.  We also want to encourage business owners to adapt the the goods and services they offer to serve the needs of a broadened clientele.See More

Patti,

I should have mentioned possibly using the Knit Happens group to connect with people on Location19.  I'm not sure how active the knitters currently are.  Deb Leary started the Location19 group and would be a good person to touch base with.

The Hearth & Happy Homemaking! group is another possibility for reaching out to people.  So far most of the emphasis of posts there have been on food but Anthony Fasolo who started the group on September 11, 2009 said:

Dear Fellow 19th Warders,
I've been meaning to do this for a bit and have finally gotten around to it. This group is for sharing and comparing all those ideas, recipes, cleaning, fixing and homey type things that you do that help make your house a home! Come in, pull up a chair and a cup of coffee, and sit for a spell.
Anthony is no longer in Rochester but anybody can join and post to the group.  If someone wants to manage the group I can elevate them to group admin status.  Other than for Anthoney and Shawn OHara all the other group members are still in the area and of course all posts get logged in the Latest Activity column.  Also, Daily Email Digest subscribers (~1/4 of membership) get an email notice of Latest Activity on Location19.
Have fun,

Hi Patti,

Welcome to Location19.  I hope we can help you spread the word of what is happening at SewGreen.  I'll try to get a introductory entry in the Our Neighborhood Merchants group and link it into the:   button in the SW Merchants box in the upper right.

Here is some info to help you use this site.  One of the most important things to do in order to follow what is going on in Location19.org is to subscribe to the Daily Email Digest so you receive an update of new activity on the site even if you don't check it every day.  You can also find a list of new information posted by looking at the Latest Activity column on the Main page.

Check out A Brief Overview on Location19 Structure to get familiar with what's where.  Now that you are a member, when you sign-in, you can post to the Main Discussion Forum, Events calendar and Blog section and you can join any of the various groups to participate in the discussions there.  You can also indicate your plan to attend events posted in the Event calendar by using the RSVP box in the opened event.    Only the most recently added 20 groups are shown in the column to the right.  In the tabs under the banner picture, Be sure to check out the "All Groups - Icons" sub-tab under the Connect tab.  We are currently up to 68 groups and over 680 members.

To join a group such as Our Neighborhood Merchants, click on the group, then in the upper right of the group page just under the banner picture, next to your name click on +Join Our Neighborhood Merchants and you are a group member!  Being a group member lets you post to the group and also permits you to receive email notifications from that group about events and other info that may not be posted on Location19 itself.

There is a ton of information you can search for and read through on Location19.  Be sure you make use of the search options.

I look forward to your participation. If you have any questions don't hesitate to call Marian or me at 328-4271.

John
