Minutes of Arnett Block Association Meeting, Sept. 20, 2016
Next meeting October 25th
Our CP Officers, Andy and Carl, met with us and had very little to report,
always a good thing. A couple neighbors who live on Kenwood across from
#29 school reported a speeding problem on the street and asked about speed
bumps. Carl and Andy encouraged them to communicate with Erik Frisch, city
traffic engineer, about solutions, recognizing speed bumps cause problems
with street cleaners and snow plows and they would have to get a petition
from neighbors, etc.
There is a delay in the roll out of the body worn cameras for RPD due to
technical difficulties. Our area may get them by the turn of the year.
We discussed the upcoming Arnett road renovations in 2017. Susan and Dave
had been to the meetings and reported that currently the changes will
include taking out the traffic signal at Rugby and Arnett (it would become
a 2 way stop) and also the blinking red at Woodbine (it would be come a 4
way stop). Bumpouts like those installed on Thurston would perhaps help
the speeding problem and would require "back in" parking in the diagonal
parking in front of the block between Rugby and Warwick. Perhaps one spot
for parking would be lost but there would be a rearrangement leaving
Dave's building with less parking directly in front of the laundromat.
Susan and others have appealed that the stop at Rugby be a four way so
people have to stop there. Otherwise, there will be a "no stop strip"
between Wellington and Woodbine (6 blocks) in an area where there is a lot
of pedestrian traffic and especially people crossing the street (Library,
bus stops, doctor's office, Arnett cafe, Buzzin Bee, Laundromat, etc.). If
you agree, please send an email to Jim.McIntosh@cityofrochester.gov soon.
Susan encouraged people to attend the "Coffee with the Mayor" this
Saturday from 8-10 AM at Brue coffee on Genesee and Brooks. If you have
opportunity to communicate regarding the usage of parcel 5 downtown,
please do. Perhaps the casino idea is off the table (glad it is) but a
well monitored green space could be a real asset to down town. Anyway,
this is a good opportunity to communicate concerns with the Mayor.
The Buzzin Bee building has been purchased by Martin Grissanti and Matthew
McGuckin from Pittsford. They are asking the community what kind of small
business we would like to see in there. You can reach them at 402-2985.
They are looking for a tenant so if you know of someone who would like
that space please let them know..
Also, both Dave Culeton (building at Arnett and Rugby) and Geneva Johnson
(building at Arnett and Wellington) have space available for people who
would like to develop a small business there. Dave has ideas about a full
service grocery with deli or meat cutter in the back, small tables for
eating in the front or on sidewalk. There is an idea afloat (John DeMott
at CDC?) for grants to convenience stores to become more full service
groceries. Susan will see what information she can find out from John
DeMott.
The garden at Arnett and Wellington though very lovely this summer, has
required a lot of watering. The water bill is around $77. If you want to
chip in toward it please give the money to Susan (374 Wellington) who has
already paid the bill. We have an offer from the city for daffodil and
tulip bulbs for our garden (not for private gardens). We need to let them
know by Oct. 10th and the pickup is Oct. 20th at 400 Dewey. This would
involve planting several dozen bulbs before winter. If you are interested
please let Susan know ASAP so the form can be sent in.
We are also interested in a large (15 foot) Christmas tree. Please let us
know if you have an inexpensive or free source for a tree).
Our meeting closed in prayer for our community
Our next meeting is Oct. 25th
See you then!
