Minutes of Arnett Block Meeting for April
We had two new neighbors join us! Welcome, Tee and Cassandra!
Concerns were raised by neighbors about the following (Susan will get these to Officers Carl and Andy):
67 Warwick- a couple weeks ago, a domestic dispute with ambulance and police-wondered about what happened and how it worked out. I think probably this info will not be available due to privacy issues when its domestic violence.
Car theft and arrest-also a couple weeks ago, were caught on Trafalgar or Aldine? Wondered what happened there also.
236 Warwick-problem with noise, loud music, car repairs (concern that it is an unlicensed car repair business), this is the house with the notorious blue and green car.
286 Wellington-guys hang out on their front porch and yard and deal drugs. They don't live there. Officers Carl and Andy, do we know who the landlord is and if he is permitting them to hang out there or just doesn't know about it. Advise please.
Warwick address near Joe (he will get the address) with two big dogs that try to jump the fence and could easily do it-very vicious dogs. What can be done? Could the dog catcher check to see if they are licensed? Is there a height for a fence to keep big dogs in? Our dog lover people said these dogs are really intimidating.
**** Buzzin Bee-multiple complaints about this store. A tenant complained about the trash she has to walk through to get to her apartment door and the trash behind the building. A fence was put up but the dumpster behind it is rarely emptied and usually overflowing onto the ground. People come into the yard and urinate all the time. The landlord has been contacted but doesn't seem to think there is a problem ??? Also, it is still a known fact that they sell looseys there although Joe Travato closed the store a month ago because of that. Two neighbors insisted that they are selling pot from the store. A lot of pot is being smoked in and around the store for sure. Behind Dave Culeton's building in the driveway that is his and the area behind his building (corner Rugby and Arnett) there is a lot of drug dealing, pot smoking, crap shooting, etc. The neighbors are concerned and would like that spot to be cleaned out and visited by police often for a while. There is a red scooter that travels in and out from that spot often.
On May 21st, 1-4 pm we will have a Bike Clinic in collaboration with Rcommunity bikes-bike repair and 15 rehabbed bikes will be raffled off for free to kids without bikes. We can use your help in handing out tickets and keeping the line going while the bikes are being repaired and running the raffle. There will be helmets and bike locks from RPD. Thank you!
On June 6th, from 9:30-1:00 (Monday) School #29 will come to the Arnett Bird and Butterfly Park for a Game Day in the Park. Rec on the Move will run games. We (Arnett Block Assoc.) will be handing out lemonade and perhaps a packaged snack-can use help if you are available; let Susan know. The kids will go into the library for stories and to hear about the summer reading program. Some children will get their first library card or will get a lost card replaced so they are ready to read this summer.
We will be planting annuals in that garden [the Arnett Bird and Butterfly Park] on May 14th, around 9 am -if you are available please join us! Some of us will be going to the Public Market to use our $20 in coupons which were part of the prize from the city for being The Community Enhancement Garden 1st prize winner. We will get some perennials for planting in the garden on May 7th from the market.
The Block Party August 6th plans are unfolding! So far we have ;
If you would like to help with food or activities please call Susan (436-1628) or email her (susan@harpsongs.com)! Thanks!
The Mayor is looking for input for the budget. We discussed some ideas at our meeting. Susan will get these ideas to the Mayor's office. There was a robo call Thursday evening that some of you may have received also.
Next meeting will be May 24th at 5:30 at 350 Arnett
Our June meeting will be June 21st (not June 28th) and the Police Chief's visit is up in the air at this point. Susan will follow up on that.
Our meeting closed in prayer for our neighborhood and city.
